We have all had our share of bug or spider bites that have caused varying degrees of pain or itching. But, nothing’s worse than a bite that won’t go away. Right up there in annoying bug bites is the flea bite which can come from rat fleas, cat fleas, dog fleas and sand fleas (a.k.a. Ceratopogonidae). Ultimately, the flea itself appears innocuous in that its dimunitive stature has even inspired names such as “no-see-ums.”
The unfortunate circumstance of the sand flea’s bite is its innate ability to remain itchy and irritating over a long period of time. Travelers have been known to visit beaches and tropical locations, appear to have no bites, and then return to their home back in the U.S., for example, and the nasty flea bites appear. To unwitting humans, they may think they have bed bugs or some other local insect affliction only to find out that it is the handy work of the flea which was feasting on their feet while they played at an island beach.
Certainly, people have their opinions on how to cure sand flea bites. We can’t say which is right for you, if any. But with over 50 opinions on flea bites from web visitors, let’s look at a few crazy ones that we’ve heard.
One woman suggests treating your flea bites with rubbing alcohol and wrapping in saran wrap. (Sounds sweaty to us!) Another recommends nail polish remover. And still another human suggest bath oil and rubbing alcohol. The lengths to which people will treat themselves speak to the extreme level of annoyance of these tiny bites. The good thing is our flea bites stopped itching in a week – yours will, too. Just be patient – if you can.
